The main ROLE of the CPBD is to strengthen private businesses with high growth potential, involved in production (with focus on value addition) and trade (mainly export) of priority crops & plants for Rwanda, as reflected in the different National Development Plans. In the short and medium term, Rwanda intends to continue focusing its efforts on the traditional cash crops of Tea and Coffee, as well as on the nascent, non-traditional horticultural crops & plants, including various Fruits & Vegetables; Flowers (mainly fresh roses); Essential Oils (Pyrethrum; Patchouli; etc). However, it is important to also note that the global income growth is leading to more consumption (and therefore more demand) of staple crops with high growth potential in Rwanda, deriving either from cereals such as Rice and Wheat or starchy root vegetables such as Irish Potatoes and Cassava. |
