Knowledge Transfer Partnership

Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) is a Rwanda-wide programme helping businesses to improve their competitiveness and productivity through the better use of knowledge, technology and skills that reside within the Rwanda Knowledge Base.

A KTP serves to meet a core strategic business need and to identify innovative solutions to help business grow. It often delivers significant increased profitability for business partners through improved quality and operations, increased sales and access to new markets. Social enterprises see improved results, too.

Universities

  • We provide you with our technical expertise in KTP;
  • We help you identify credible business partners and train KTP “associate” (recent high calibre graduates);
  • We help you identify an international credible university to provide expertise you may be lacking within your areas of operation;
  • We help you develop proposals/ agreements on the basis of the partnership and funding. In some cases, we may provide financial support.
  • Our KTP Adviser will ensure that you gain maximum benefit from participation.

Businesses

  • We listen to your needs first and on that basis, we can help you identify where business problems are.
  • We then link you to a credible partner from an appropriate university who will closely work with you to understand the business problem, and together, we can assist you to agree on deliverables and finding proposals for the project.
  • At all times, you have an expert KTP Advisor from the RDB HCID who can advise on most problems associated with the KTP project and ensure you derive maximum benefit.

Potential areas for KTP projects

  • Manufacturing: Improving design and productivity
  • Mining and minerals: Increasing productivity and reducing environmental impact
  • ICT: Developing new services, adopting new technology.
  • Horticulture: Improving yield, post harvest handling, use of water.

Principle players within a KTP partnership:

Company partner - this is usually a company (including not-for-profit) but in some cases it can be a health or education organization. KTP supports a broad cross-section of firms, regardless of size.

Knowledge-base partner - this is a higher education institution (e.g. university, college or research organization (public or privately funded) ].

KTP Associates – Each partnership employs one or more high calibre Associates (recently qualified people), transferring the knowledge the company is seeking into the business via a strategic project
