COMMUNITY
PROJECT LAUNCH

23rd August

The Community Project that will be launched in 2019 in the Northern Province of Rwanda has been funded for the most part by Government of Rwanda’s tourism revenue sharing programme in which 10% of total tourism park revenues are invested back into communities, contributing to the development and welfare of communities living adjacent Rwanda’s national parks. Launching projects enhances community involvement and creates awareness of the importance of conservation and the protection of our bio-diversity.

FAMILIARISATION
TOURS

30th Aug – 10th Sept

One of the key activities for the 15th Kwita Izina is the hosted familiarization trip for international tour operators and media. It is our opportunity to showcase Rwanda’s diverse tourism attractions and unique cultural heritage that makes Rwanda a must-see destination. The itinerary includes cultural heritage attractions such as the King’s Palace in Nyanza, Nyungwe, Akagera and Volcanoes National Parks as well as Lake Kivu. Participants will enjoy Kwita Izina events with networking sessions and B2B opportunities built into the programme.

NAMING
CEREMONY

6th September

Join us for the ultimate celebration of life as newborn baby gorillas are named during the 15th hosting of Kwita Izina in Kinigi, Volcanoes National Park.
The ceremony of giving a name to a newborn baby, commonly known as ‘Kwita Izina’, has been part of Rwandan culture for centuries.
The name attributed to a baby gorilla plays a significant role in the ongoing programme of monitoring each individual gorilla in its family group and habitat.
This year we expect to name 25 gorillas.
